Not every group is big enough to fill a coach. For medium-sized groups such as family gatherings, small company teams, sports teams or neighbourhood association trips, a minibus or midibus offers a more economical and more flexible solution.
The difference between a minibus and a midibus
These two vehicle types are usually distinguished by the number of seats and body length. Minibuses are compact and move easily in the city, in narrow streets and where parking is limited. Midibuses carry more passengers and luggage than a minibus while remaining more agile than a coach. The exact capacity depends on the model and the number of seats on the registration; this information is stated in writing in the quote for the vehicle we propose.
When is a minibus or midibus the better choice?
- Scattered pick-up points: If passengers are collected from different addresses, a smaller vehicle makes the route easier.
- Narrow or steep streets: Old town centres, village roads and residential complexes can be difficult for large vehicles.
- Passenger numbers clearly below a coach’s capacity: It makes more sense to choose the right vehicle for your group than to pay for empty seats.
- Short, frequent runs: If several short transfers are needed during the day, smaller vehicles move faster.
Planning with more than one vehicle
Sometimes two minibuses work better than one large vehicle: for example, if half of the passengers are collected in one neighbourhood and half in another. In such plans, the departure times of the vehicles and the meeting point are coordinated together. We have collected the points to consider when choosing a vehicle by group size in our guide to vehicle size.
How is the price calculated?
The price of minibus and midibus hire is calculated from factors such as distance, duration of use, date and waiting time. On the same route, the difference between a minibus and a midibus comes down to the vehicle class and its operating cost. You can find out which details affect the price in our pricing guide and fill in the quote form for an exact figure.
Who is it for?
- Family, friend and association groups too small to fill a coach
- Company team events and small-scale corporate transfers
- Sports clubs and team transport
- Medium-sized events such as engagements, henna nights and receptions
Choosing a vehicle
The choice of vehicle depends as much on luggage as on the number of passengers. On luggage-heavy trips such as airport returns, a larger vehicle class may be needed because of luggage space, even if there are enough seats. For luggage calculations, see our guide to luggage and capacity.
